During early March, students on the second year Foundation Degree in Equine Management at Moulton College ran an Indoor Eventer Trial at the College as part of their Equine Facilities Management Module. This was a charitable event with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Research and The Brooks Hospital for Ponies and Donkeys.
The students had to take full responsibility for the show arrangements including production of advertising material, course building, administration and organisation on the day.
Louise Dentith, course tutor, said “this is a true test for students, they have to put the theories they learnt in the classroom in to a “real live” situation involving the general public. I was very pleased; the group worked really well as a team and produced a very successful event”
An Indoor Eventer Trial is a relatively new idea within the equine competition world and involves competitors tackling a course of show jumps followed by cross-country style fences against the clock but all within an indoor arena. It provides a unique challenge for both horse and rider and is very entertaining for spectators – particularly without the fear of inclement weather as is the case at some events at this time of year!
The show was an outstanding success with not only local competitors but several coming from neighbouring counties to attend the day and raised over £800 for the nominated charities.
