Riders need to be aged between 18 and 30 and must be able to attend the final selection day with their horse which this year will be held on Thursday 20th November at Richmond Equestrian Centre, North Yorkshire. Twelve finalists will be chosen across the three disciplines of show jumping, dressage and eventing and they will be put through their paces by a panel of professional judges. The selection day will include a group training session with one of the judges. Six riders will then be selected to become members of the Blaze Academy.

The current 2007/2008 Blaze Academy dressage riders are Holly Bates who won the under 21’s British Dressage Talent Spotting Finals and Ashleigh Hill who achieved second place in the National Young Rider Derby U25 Championships at Sheepgate. The two Blaze Academy show jumping riders are Chloe Reynard, who has a long list of international successes to her name from novice up to Grand Prix, and Tracy Holder who has brought on her two young horses to compete at Grade B level. Emily Philip who is consistently winning across the levels from intro to intermediate and Abbie Hughes who rode at Weston Part 1* JRN championships are this year’s two event riders (all pictured below). The Blaze Academy has enabled these riders to have valuable extra lessons with a trainer of their choice to help them progress in their sport.
