This book is a highly informative manual for the care and maintenance of the performance horse. A wide range of topics are covered including aspects of health care, wound management, parasite control, pre-purchase evaluation, high tech therapy treatments when recovering from injury, and breeding the performance horse. It also covers scientific information such as the remodelling of bones after injury, practical ways to improve the horse's muscle tone and also protecting the respiratory system.

The book has extensive contents pages, appendix, bibliography, glossary of terms and index pages. The information is written in a comprehensible way even though it is scientifically based and uses clear headings and bullet points in places. Although the book is not recently written, it is still highly relevant. The book is a fantastic
reference book for equine students from NVQ level up to degree students and will no doubt provide something for everyone.

The illustrations and photographs are all black and white which I feel would have worked better in colour as some pictures show injuries, parasites etc. and it is difficult to distinguish the features.

This book would be of interest to anyone who is keen to develop a deeper understanding of the performance horse and ultimately it will help you maximise the potential of such horses.
