Breeding Horses by Mina Davies Morel has brought a breath of fresh air to my collection of reference books. Although the information goes into some depth, it is easy to read with good diagrams and pictures. The information is practical for a wide variety of people and it gives the reader plenty of ideas to think about.
Whether you are in further education, higher education or an apprentice, this book will guide you through the potentially complicated world of breeding. Stud managers and breeders alike will also find this useful as a reference book. The author includes details of problems related to breeding and includes comprehensive information on how they can be treated.
The book starts by guiding the reader clearly through the reproductive anatomy of both the mare and stallion. It takes the reader through the breeding process right up to weaning the foal, and after care of the mare. The information is very up to date and brings forward the traditional methods as well as introducing newer ideas to the reader. A highly recommended read for higher education students who are studying breeding, with lots of fresh ideas for associated assignments.
