This book provides comprehensive information on diseases of the major systems. These include the respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological and musculoskeletal systems, the alimentary and urinary tracts, and the skin and liver. There are also sections on foal diseases, internal parasites, poisoning and notifiable diseases.

Each chapter comprises a short introduction, followed by an outline of history, taking into account, clinical examination, diagnosis and aetiology of problems of that organ or system. Diseases specific to the organ or system are then discussed following a systematic standard procedure comprising clinical signs, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and prevention. The book includes a chapter on Therapy including the use of drugs, routes of administration and antimicrobial therapy. As an aid to diagnosis, chapters on Procedures which may aid diagnosis, and Laboratory Services are included providing information on various tests and biopsies. Laboratory Services include a brief outline of haematology, clinical chemistry, bacteriology, urine examination and parasitology.

The information given is clear, concise and comprehensive and is a practical guide covering the whole field of equine disease. It is easy to read and gives the reader basic information that can be applied in the field. The book is not illustrated, but that does not detract from the purpose of it, being a practical aid to the diagnosis of equine diseases in ready reference form.

The style is essentially practical and set out in semi note form. This book is recommended for vets in general practice and students. I would certainly recommend it to Equine students as an aid to Health and Disease modules.
